The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over investigations into the reported disappearance of businessman Jimmy Mutava, days after his family reported an alleged abduction in Mlolongo.

The latest update comes as CCTV footage linked to the incident continues to circulate on social media, raising public concern and calls for a thorough investigation.

In a statement dated August 2, the DCI confirmed that detectives from its Anti-Abduction Unit are now handling the case after a report was made at Mlolongo Police Station on July 27, 2026.

According to the agency, investigators have already begun following several leads.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) wishes to inform the public that detectives from the DCI Anti-Abduction Unit have taken over investigations into the reported alleged abduction of Jimmy Mutava, following a report made at Mlolongo Police Station on 27th July 2026,” the statement read.

CCTV Footage Captures Business Man’s Jimmy Mutava Final Known Movements

As investigations continue, CCTV footage circulating on social media has provided a timeline of Jimmy Mutava’s movements before his reported disappearance.

The footage shows Mutava arriving at an entertainment joint in Mlolongo at around 6:30 p.m. after being dropped off by a white vehicle.

Shortly after, a senior police officer attached to Mlolongo Police Station entered the premises, and Mutava later joined him.

At about 7:04 p.m., another man arrived and joined the meeting. CCTV footage then captured Mutava seated while using two mobile phones.

At the same time, another man wearing a hood stood across the premises, talking on his phone while appearing to closely monitor the situation.

At around 8:20 p.m., Mutava was seen leaving the entertainment joint while still speaking on one of his phones. The senior police officer, however, remained inside with a woman.

The footage has drawn attention because it appears to differ from claims reportedly made to Mutava’s family that the officer had stepped away to use the washroom when Mutava disappeared.

According to witnesses, moments after Mutava walked outside, armed men wearing masks allegedly forced him into a vehicle before driving away in an unknown direction.
