Wambui’s mother, Wangari Gathogo, said her daughter’s friend became concerned after repeated calls went unanswered before someone else answered Wambui’s phone and advised her to contact the family and report to the DCI Kilimani offices.
“She told me that she couldn’t reach her and that she felt very uneasy, sensing that her friend was not okay. She then told me that when she tried calling Wambui’s phone, it was answered by someone else who told her to look for her family members so they could go to the DCI Kilimani office,” Wangari recalled.

Police later recovered her handbag from the rooftop, containing her mobile phone, work uniform, and other personal belongings, while her body was discovered in a neighbouring building.
Meanwhile, the family has stated that the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear and has ruled out suicide, insisting that investigators establish whether Wambui accidentally fell, was pushed, or whether foul play was involved.
Last Movements Before Death
According to preliminary reports, at approximately 10 p.m., Margaret entered Altura Apartments, a building comprising residential units and Airbnb apartments located near her internship site.
The security personnel said she proceeded to the rooftop on the 22nd floor, where she was reportedly seen taking photographs and later going to the washroom.

However, when they checked a short while later, Margaret Wambui was no longer there and minutes later, her body was discovered at an adjacent building.
Her death comes days after that of a grade 9 student at CITAM Ngong Hills after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a school building on Monday morning.
Although reports indicated that the student was given urgent medical attention before being rushed to Karen Hospital in consultation with her parents, she was pronounced dead on arrival.
