Nairobi MCA Arrested for Illegal Possession of Pistol

Embakasi East MCA and two men are being held by the police after a detective allegedly found an unlicensed Glock pistol and 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the lawmaker’s office.

MCA Patrick Karani and two other suspects, Stephen Kimathi Karimoni and Stanley Njogu Irungu, are being held at an all-girls secondary school and a primary school for having an unlicensed firearm.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the three were arrested during an operation in Roasters, Nairobi.

“Three suspects, including a Member of County Assembly (MCA), are now behind bars following a police operation at the Roasters area of Nairobi that led to the recovery of a Glock pistol. The suspects, Patrick Karani, the MCA for Embakasi East Sub-County, along with Stephen Kimathi Karimoni and Stanley Njogu Irungu, were apprehended in the MCA’s office after detectives swooped in and recovered the weapon, with a magazine of 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition,” DCI said.

The recovered firearm is suspected to have been illegally acquired, investigators said, adding that the recovered gun and ammunition are now exhibits, and the suspects are undergoing interrogation ahead of a court date.

With the Glock and its ammunition now secured as exhibits, the trio remains in custody as detectives process them in preparation for court proceedings.

DCI’s Warning on Unlawful Possession of Firearms and Public Reporting Initiative

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reiterates that unlawful possession of firearms poses a significant threat to public safety and warns that those found in breach of firearms laws will face the full force of the law.

The DCI urged members of the public to report suspicious activity involving illegal firearms through the toll-free line 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000, assuring that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality under the #FichuaKwaDCI initiative.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations of the undergoing interrogation are concluded.
