NPS Reveals What Happened During Chaotic Political Meeting in Embu

The National Police Service (NPS) has strongly condemned the violence that disrupted a public meeting attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Nembure, Embu County.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, September 12, 2026, the NPS described the incident as an “outrageous and criminal” attempt by a group of individuals to storm the meeting.

The meeting was being presided over by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki when the group allegedly attempted to breach the gathering.

According to the police, officers responded to the attempted disruption and repelled the assailants.

“Upon the group’s unlawful attempt to breach the meeting, officers acted decisively and repulsed the assailants,” the NPS said.

The police added that several suspects were arrested at the scene as officers moved to restore law and order.

One Person Fatally Injured, Six Vehicles Torched in Embu Rally

The NPS said one person was fatally injured during the chaos, while six vehicles were set ablaze.

“Regrettably, one person was fatally injured, six vehicles were torched and several persons injured during the chaos,” the statement said.

The service said investigations had started to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. It vowed to identify and bring to justice all those involved in the violence.

“No effort will be spared in identifying and bringing to justice all persons involved,” the police said.

The NPS further warned that anyone found to have participated in the incident or similar acts of lawlessness would face legal action.

“Strict action will be taken in accordance with the law. There will be no exceptions,” the service said.

The police maintained that they would continue protecting life and property across the country and would not be intimidated in carrying out their duties.

UDA Meeting Disrupted Amid Chaotic Scenes

The incident occurred during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates’ meeting at Nembure Stadium in Embu County.

Multiple vehicles were vandalised and some set ablaze as skirmishes broke out at the meeting attended by Kindiki and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire.

Police officers fired tear gas as the gathering was disrupted.The violence brought the UDA meeting to a halt as security officers moved to contain the situation.

Party Condemns Violence

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, writing on behalf of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party, condemned the violence and damage reported during the disruption of the party meeting in Nembure, Embu County.

He said the party regretted the loss and damage caused by those responsible for organising youths to disrupt the meeting.

“The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party regrets the loss and/or damage brought about by those responsible for organizing the youth to disrupt our party meeting in Nembure, Embu earlier today,” Kindiki said.

He called on law enforcement agencies to take action against those responsible for the violence.

“The Party condemns violence and demands that law enforcement agencies take punitive measures against all those responsible for perpetuating political violence,” he said.

Kindiki said UDA stood for issue-based politics and a political contest centred on development records and policy goals for Kenya’s future.

“Our party stands for issue-based politics and a contest around who or which party has a better development track record and policy goals for Kenya’s future, rather than forcing support through lies, violence and useless slogans,” he said.

He added that UDA’s leadership in Embu had been tasked with verifying the exact nature of the loss and damage and coordinating a response for those affected.
