Ogamba Makes Fresh Changes to University Councils as Mercy Kanyara Joins JKUAT

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has appointed six people to the councils of universities and university colleges, with Mercy Kanyara (Dr.) shifting to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) after her appointment at Machakos University was revoked.

Kanyara is among a new group of council members appointed for three-year terms beginning October 2, 2026, alongside changes at Turkana University College, Kenyatta University, Koitaleel Samoei University College and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.

At Machakos University, Ogamba appointed Lazarus Kipichii Tanui as a council member, while Kanyara was named to the JKUAT Council in a separate Gazette Notice issued on the same day.

“The appointment of Mercy Kanyara (Dr.) is revoked,” the notice states

CS Ogamba appointed Kanyara as a member of the JKUAT Council for three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 (1) (d) of the Universities Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints—MERCY KANYARA (DR.) as a Member of the Council of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology,” the notice states.

New Council Members Named Across Four Institutions

Away from the changes involving Kanyara, Ogamba appointed Evelyne N. Kyendo to the Council of Turkana University College and Wilson Kipruto Ronno to the Kenyatta University Council.

Abdihakim Guhad Gabow was named a member of the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology Council, with all three appointments running for three years from October 2.

At Koitaleel Samoei University College, John Kamanga Ole Ntetiyian will remain on the council after Ogamba reappointed him for another three-year term.

The Gazette notice states that the Cabinet Secretary re-appoints—John Kamanga Ole Ntetiyian as a member of the council.

All six notices were dated October 2, 2026, and were issued under Section 36(1)(d) of the Universities Act.
