Vivo Energy Kenya Honours Mechanics in Eldoret

More than 100 mechanics from across the North Rift gathered in Eldoret on Sunday, July 26, 2026, as Vivo Energy Kenya celebrated the professionals who help keep Kenya moving.

The mechanics attended the second annual Mechanics Wellness Day held under the theme, “Celebrating the People Behind Kenya’s Mobility Ecosystem.”

The event recognised the important role mechanics play in supporting Kenya’s transport, agriculture, manufacturing, construction and other sectors.

Mechanics play a key role in maintaining vehicles and equipment used to transport people and goods across the country.

They service tractors used in farming, trucks that transport fresh produce, buses that connect communities and family vehicles used by millions of Kenyans.

Their work helps businesses operate, supports agricultural value chains and ensures that people and goods reach their destinations safely.

Speaking during the event, Stephen Gikonyo, Lubricants and LPG Sales and Marketing Manager at Vivo Energy Kenya, said the event was meant to honour the skilled professionals behind the country’s mobility.

“This day is about celebrating and thanking the skilled men and women whose hands keep Kenya moving. Behind every safe journey, every successful delivery and every successful harvest is a mechanic whose expertise makes it possible,” Gikonyo said.

He added that Vivo Energy Kenya was committed to supporting mechanics beyond the sale of lubricants.

“Through Shell Lubricants, we are proud to stand alongside these professionals by investing not only in high quality products, but also in their health, skills and wellbeing,” he said.

“We believe that behind every mechanic should be a partner that cares, and today’s event is a reflection of that commitment.”

Health Screening and Sporting Activities

The Mechanics Wellness Day combined health, sports and recreation to promote the wellbeing of mechanics.

Participants took part in football matches, pool and darts competitions and indoor games. They also received comprehensive health screening and related medical services.

Ezra Omwancha of Equity Afya highlighted some of the occupational risks mechanics face in their daily work.

“Mechanics often work long hours in confined spaces, lift heavy equipment, and are regularly exposed to physically demanding conditions,” Omwancha said.

“Through this initiative, we are providing free health screening and related medical services to help ensure they remain healthy and able to continue supporting Kenya’s transport and agricultural sectors.”

The event also gave mechanics an opportunity to interact with colleagues, their families and industry partners in a relaxed environment.

Vivo Energy Kenya Supports Mechanics’ Professional Growth

Mechanics also help motorists make informed decisions about vehicle maintenance, engine performance and the use of quality lubricants.

Vivo Energy Kenya said it would continue investing in initiatives that support the health, professional growth and long-term success of mechanics.

The celebrations ended with an awards ceremony where winners of the various sporting and recreational competitions were recognised.

The company said initiatives such as Mechanics Wellness Day were part of its broader commitment to the professionals who keep Kenya’s mobility ecosystem running.

It added that investing in the people behind Kenya’s mobility was an investment in the country’s economic future.
