Planning a Trip to Thailand? Visa, Documents and Entry Requirements for Kenyan Travellers

The dream may begin with Bangkok’s bright streets, Thailand’s tropical beaches and the promise of a holiday far from home, but for Kenyan travellers, getting there takes more than booking a flight.
From the visa application to the documents required at the airport, a missing paper can turn an exciting trip into a stressful journey.
Thailand, known as the “Land of Smiles” for its warm hospitality and welcoming culture, sits at the heart of mainland Southeast Asia and shares borders with Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia.
Its capital, Bangkok, is both a major commercial hub and a gateway for millions of visitors drawn to the country’s beaches, cuisine and cultural attractions.
The paperwork starts before the suitcase is packed
Kenyan travellers applying for a Thai tourist visa need to prepare documents that demonstrate their identity, finances, occupation and travel plans.
Employees can provide an employment contract, employment letter and recent payslips, while self-employed applicants can use business registration documents.
Students may submit an official letter from their institution and explain how they will finance the trip.
Applicants also need recent bank statements, proof of residence in Kenya, a passport copy, photograph, flight reservation and accommodation booking.
Those travelling under sponsorship may need to provide the sponsor’s passport and financial documents.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi currently charges Ksh 5,000 for a single-entry tourist visa and Ksh 25,000 for a multiple-entry visa.

Visa approved? The journey is not over yet
Before departure, travellers should have their passport, visa, return ticket, accommodation details and Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) ready.
Kenyan travellers must also carry a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate.
On arrival, health officials may verify the certificate before the traveller proceeds to immigration.
Thailand has a tropical climate with hot, rainy, and cooler seasons, so timing is another consideration when planning the trip.

The safest approach is to treat every document as part of the journey—not an afterthought.
Check the requirements early, keep digital and printed copies, and make sure your visa and entry documents match your travel plans before heading to the airport.
