Kibra Drug Network Busted in Major Police Sting Operation

Police in Nairobi have dismantled a suspected narcotics distribution network following a coordinated sting operation in the Laini area of Kibra.

The operation was carried out by undercover officers from Kibra Police Station on June 8 after acting on intelligence reports about ongoing drug trafficking activities in the area.

Several suspects were arrested during the raid, marking a breakthrough in the fight against the illicit drug trade in the informal settlement.

During the operation, officers recovered a wide range of suspected illegal substances and related materials.

These included assorted liquid drugs, unidentified tablets, “Moody” tablets, rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang), syringes, needles, alcohol swabs, cotton wool, and packets of candles.

Police believe the items are linked to drug distribution and possible abuse within the area.

Police Take Suspects  Into Custody

All arrested individuals were taken to Kibra Police Station and are currently in custody awaiting further investigation and court proceedings.

The recovered exhibits were securely stored as evidence in the station’s exhibits room as investigations continue.

The National Police Service has emphasized its commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations aimed at eliminating drug trafficking networks across the country.

In a statement, the service said, “Intelligence-led operations remain key in disrupting illegal drug supply chains. We will continue to pursue and dismantle such networks nationwide.”

Kibera’s Longstanding Battle With Drug Networks

This latest operation adds to a long list of police crackdowns in Kibera, which has repeatedly been identified as a hotspot for narcotics-related activity.

In recent years, police have carried out several similar raids across different parts of Kibera, including Laini, Makina, and Karanja areas, targeting both small-scale dealers and larger distribution networks.

In one recent operation, officers recovered dozens of rolls of bhang ready for street distribution, while another crackdown led to the seizure of packaged narcotics and drug-preparation materials such as weighing scales and packaging bags.
