Woman Attacked With Boiling Beans Stew Over “Tutam” Slogan In Kibera

A woman in Kibra Gatwekera area is recovering at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after she was allegedly attacked with boiling bean stew after a political disagreement linked to the “tutam” slogan.
According to reports, Maureen Matsili, a single mother of four, was allegedly burned by a man known to her after a heated argument escalated in the area.
The incident has left her with severe burn injuries on most parts of her body.
“Mimi naumia kwa sababu ya tutam, niko hapa hospitali kwa sababu ya tutam,” she says.
Family In Kibra Calls For Justice
Family members of the victim claim the suspect grabbed a pot of boiling beans from a nearby food vendor before pouring it on her during the confrontation.
The family has since called for justice, saying the suspect has not yet been arrested.

The incident reportedly occurred on May 18 during protests linked to rising fuel prices in Nairobi.
While many residents stayed indoors, Matsili is said to have been outside talking to friends when the argument allegedly broke out over her support for the government and use of the “tutam” slogan associated with President William Ruto’s allies.
Burned Over “Tutam” Slogan In Kibra
According to her relatives, the suspect questioned why she was supporting the government at a time when Kenyans were protesting over the high cost of living before allegedly attacking her.
Her sister, Lilian Kakuli, said doctors confirmed that Matsili sustained severe burns on her chest, abdomen, thighs and private parts.
The family reported the matter at Kibra Police Station and has urged authorities to speed up investigations and arrest the suspect.
Concern Over Rising Similar Cases
Kilimani police commander Patricia Yegon confirmed that detectives are investigating the incident and are expected to record statements from witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.

The attack has sparked concern among residents over rising cases of political intolerance and violence linked to differing opinions.
The case also comes days after another politically linked attack in Nairobi involving gospel singer Rachel Wandeto, who later died from severe burns after being attacked by unknown assailants in Kasarani.
