The National Police Service (NPS) has condemned three violent incidents reported in Nairobi within the last 24 hours, including a petrol attack on a woman in Mwiki and assaults on two traffic police officers in Embakasi and Lang’ata.
In a statement released on May 17, 2026, by the Office of the Inspector General, police said investigations are ongoing and warned that those responsible will face the law.
According to the police statement, the first incident happened on May 16, 2026, in the Mwiki area of Kasarani Sub-county.
Police said a woman was attacked with what is believed to be petrol before being set on fire.
She is currently receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital and is fighting for her life.
Preliminary investigations suggest the attack may have been linked to the woman’s political views.
Police added that a special team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters has taken over the case.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was linked to the woman’s political views, which allegedly displeased her attackers. The matter is being investigated by a specialised team from the DCI Headquarters,” reads part of the statement.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect has already been identified and that legal action is underway.
The third incident happened in Lang’ata, where a Metro Shuttle bus crew allegedly attacked a traffic officer enforcing the law.
Police said the suspects were swiftly arrested and the bus involved was impounded.
“NPS condemns all three incidents in the strongest possible terms,” the statement added.
The National Police Service said attacks against police officers and politically motivated violence threaten the rule of law and public safety.
“Political intolerance has no place in competitive politics, our democracy, or our laws,” the statement read.
Police also praised officers involved in the incidents for showing restraint and professionalism despite the confrontations.
The service urged members of the public to cooperate with police officers and report any information related to the incidents through official police channels.
