The Kenya Urban Roads Authority has announced a partial closure of Ngong Road/Naivasha Road at the junction near Junction Mall, starting Monday, May 18th, 2026.
The closure will run nightly from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM through Sunday, May 31st, 2026, to allow final asphalt works on the critical section.
The works mark the last phase of the ongoing road upgrade aimed at easing congestion and improving safety for thousands of motorists who use the route daily.
KURA said the timing was chosen to minimize disruption during peak daytime traffic.

KURA stated the closure is necessary to complete the last phase of road works aimed at improving traffic flow on one of Nairobi’s busiest routes.
The authority explained that laying and compacting the final asphalt layer requires a stable, traffic-free environment to meet quality and durability standards.
Heavy commercial vehicles have been advised to plan for longer alternative routes to avoid bottlenecks around the Junction Mall area.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused as we endeavour to Transform Urban Mobility,” KURA stated in the public notice.
The authority added that traffic police and marshals will be on site to guide drivers through the affected section and ensure order during the closure hours.

KURA also warned motorists to observe speed limits and follow instructions from officers on the ground to prevent accidents in the work zone.
The notice, signed by Director General Silas Kinoti, MBS, FIEK, confirmed the works are part of the final finishing phase of the project.
KURA advised commuters to plan their journeys early and consider leaving earlier than usual to avoid delays during the 8-hour nightly closure window.
The authority said once completed, the upgraded section will enhance traffic flow, reduce travel time, and improve overall road safety.
