3 Police Officers Among 14 Arrested in Nairobi Fake Gold Bust

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested 14 suspects, including three serving police officers and several foreign nationals, following a raid on a warehouse in Nairobi where suspected counterfeit US currency, fake gold bars and materials believed to be used in producing counterfeit notes were recovered.

The operation was conducted on October 1, 2026, at a warehouse in the Vision Plaza Industrial Area after a complaint was filed by US national Alkhalifi Ibrahim Hassan at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Police Station.

The suspects include Kenyan and foreign nationals from Nigeria, Cameroon and Sudan. Three of them are police officers attached to the Security of Government Buildings (SGB) at Uhuru Camp.

According to the DCI, two of the officers were armed with Beretta pistols, while the third was armed with a Chalbi pistol when detectives raided the warehouse located behind Vision Plaza.

The suspects were identified as Anthony Oyieka Namani, a Nigerian; Soulemanou, a Cameroonian; Abbas Ibrahim Mohamed, a Sudanese; George Kinyanjui, Geofrey Omondi Juma, William Kimolo, Solomon Ndeda, Raphael Wayaya, Kevin Barasa, Erick Honla, Maureen Ogany, Corporal Joseph Otenyo Okimba, APC Douglas O. Odira and APC Felix Oyawa Odhiambo.

Suspected Counterfeit US Currency Recovered

Detectives recovered 31 sealed black pallets during the operation.

“Further scrutiny established that three of the pallets contained 156 bundles of US$100 notes suspected to be counterfeit, while the remaining pallets contained cement,” the DCI said.

Detectives also recovered a black bag containing 13 bundles of US$100 notes suspected to be counterfeit.

65 Fake Gold Bars Recovered

The raid also uncovered a plastic box containing 65 gold bars suspected to be fake. Detectives recovered another box containing assorted chemicals suspected to have been intended for the manufacture of counterfeit currency.

A separate box contained assorted papers printed with US dollar notes. Other exhibits recovered included assorted aluminium seals, seven cartons of UN blue plastic seals, two Kenya Revenue Authority reflector jackets, two empty suitcases, a green pallet-strapping roll, a padlock cutter and a hacksaw.

DCI Continues Investigations

The DCI said the scene was processed and the exhibits secured as detectives continue investigating the suspected counterfeit currency operation. The investigations are aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the operation and determining the identities and respective roles of those involved.

“The suspects are currently assisting detectives with ongoing investigations, with appropriate legal action to follow upon completion of the inquiry,” the DCI said.
