Speaking on May 21, Ruto said the current heightened tensions were a result of tribal mobilization and what he called hate speech and that critics would not be allowed to divide the country,.
“Visionless people, you shall not divide our country using ethnicity; you shall not divide our country using hate,” Ruto declared. “The hate that you are propagating… Someday you will be accountable for the tribalism you are fostering in Kenya.”

National Unity, Political Incitement, and Development Over Tribalism
Ruto insisted that efforts to stoke ethnic profiling would not succeed because Kenya’s national unity is too strong to be undermined by political incitement.
He urged leaders to focus on development rather than tribal mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections.
Further , Ruto addressed the death of gospel singer Rachel Wandeto who died following what was reported to be a petrol attack on her in Mwiki.
Ruto said Wandeto was killed because of ethnic and tribal politics.
He emphasized that her death will not go unpunished.
“Rachel Wandeto’s life shall not go in vain… Rachel Wandeto has been killed because of your hate, Rachel Wandeto has been killed because of your tribalism,” the president added.

Political Rhetoric, Ethnic Animosity, and National Unity
He further directed the relevant security agencies to ensure speedy investigations and ensure the suspects are brought to justice.
Ruto termed the attack as a manifestation of the growing hateful rhetoric and urging Kenyans to shun leaders inciting ethnic animosity for political mileage.
The visit is the president’s first major development trip to the region this year.
He is expected to officiate the commissioning of infrastructure projects and engage with leaders in Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River and Lamu counties.
Ruto concluded that Kenyans had a choice between remaining divided and uniting as a nation and that the pursuit of politics of hatred has no place in the future of the country.
