Shock in Mombasa as DCI Uncovers Alleged Child Trafficking Ring, 22 Girls Saved

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has arraigned a 27-year-old suspect linked to an alleged child trafficking and sexual exploitation following the rescue of 22 girls in Mombasa.
In a statement dated May, 21, DCI stated that Almasi Rama Amos appeared before the Shanzu Law Courts after an intelligence-led operation conducted by detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit alongside officers from the Regional Criminal Investigations Office in Mombasa.
“A 27-year-old suspect linked to an alleged child trafficking and sexual exploitation ring has been arraigned before the Shanzu Law Courts following an intelligence-led operation by detectives in Mombasa County,” read part of the statement.
The agency added that the arrest followed weeks of investigations into reports of abuse targeting vulnerable young girls.
DCI Rescues 22 Girls as Mombasa Child Trafficking Suspect Faces Charges
According to DCI, Almasi Rama Amos was tracked to a hideout in Nguu Tatu Estate within the Concordia area of Kisauni Sub-County, where he was allegedly found in the company of three female juveniles.

Preliminary investigations reportedly uncovered what detectives described as a scheme involving so-called rescue centres operating in Mombasa and Kilifi counties.
DCI argued that the facilities were presented as centres meant to nurture and mentor young girls, but were allegedly being used for sexual exploitation and abuse of minors.
In addition, the agency stated that the suspect later led officers to another facility in the Ribe area, Rabai Sub-County, where 19 more female juveniles were rescued, bringing the number to 22.
Suspect Denied Bond as Crackdown on Child Trafficking Continues
They noted that the rescued girls are expected to receive protection and support as investigations into the alleged trafficking network continue.
Meanwhile, appearing before the Courts, Almasi Rama faced multiple charges, including defilement, child trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation, promotion of child trafficking, and child abuse.
“Appearing before the Shanzu Law Courts today, the suspect faced a litany of charges, including defilement, child trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation, promotion of child trafficking, and child abuse, among other serious offences,” read part of the statement.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was denied bond. The case is scheduled for mention on June 8, 2026.
DCI said it remains committed to protecting children from trafficking, abuse, and exploitation.
The agency added that individuals involved in such crimes would continue to be pursued and prosecuted.
