A family in Ndumberi, Kiambu County, is mourning the painful loss of their son, whose dream of finding a better life in Dubai ended in tragedy just two weeks after leaving Kenya.

In a statement dated Friday, May 15, 2026, the family said that George Chira Njuguna traveled to Dubai on April 1, 2026, in hopes of securing work opportunities abroad.

“A family in Ndumberi, Kiambu County, is in mourning after their son George Chira Njuguna traveled to Dubai on April 1st, 2026, in search of a better life and never came back,” read part of the statement.

The situation, however, quickly changed as his calls home began painting a picture of distress, confusion, and abandonment.

According to the family, George’s travel arrangements were made through a woman identified as Nduta, the daughter of his mother’s close friend. Due to the close relationship between the two families, they trusted the process completely.

However, concerns emerged on the day of travel after Nduta allegedly failed to appear at the airport and instead sent a man identified as Silas to assist George.

Despite the confusion, George boarded his flight and later called home to confirm that he had arrived safely in Dubai, but no one had come to pick him up from the airport.

Meanwhile, the following morning, he called his mother again in distress, asking for money to get food.

The family noted that after a short while, George made another call, saying someone had finally come for him and that was the last conversation he ever had with his family.

“Days passed in silence. When the family pressed Nduta for answers, she told them not to worry,” read part of the statement.

Family Seeks Clarity After George Njuguna’s Death

His family added that three days later, they received news that George had died in a road accident in Dubai on April 14, 2026, after spending only 14 days in Dubai and his body was taken to Ramayan Morgue.

The circumstances surrounding his death have left his family with painful questions about what exactly happened after he arrived in Dubai.

Therefore, relatives are now demanding answers regarding the travel arrangements, the conflicting information they received, and the events leading up to his death.

George’s case comes shortly after Brian Kipkoech, the young man from Kericho who was captured homeless in Dubai, returned to Kenya.

In a viral video, Kipkoech was seen in dirty clothes, appearing frail, disoriented and struggling on the streets.

The footage sparked an immediate reaction on social media, with Kenyans questioning how a young man who left for greener pastures could end up in such a state.

Well-wishers quickly rallied to his aid, eventually securing an Emirates flight back home through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and landing safely on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
