Detectives have launched a probe into the death of the County Intelligence NIS Coordination head, who was found dead in his official residence in Nyamira on Friday.
The body of David Kipkoech Kosgey, 56, was discovered dead at midday alone in his house, which is situated next to the county commissioner’s office.
County Commissioner Benson Leparimorijo confirmed the discovery of the body and told the press that police broke into his house after he failed to show up for work and ignored calls.
Kosgey had a duty assignment in Nairobi on Friday when colleagues could not find the deceased the entire morning and raised an alarm.
They alerted security personnel, who, after finding the house locked, broke into the office around midday, discovering the officer’s body.

The Investigation into the Death of a NIS Senior Intelligence Coordinator
Mr. Leparimorijo said the deceased had vomited a large volume of blood before he died.
Investigators discovered signs of struggle on the floor where the deceased collapsed and no visible bodily injuries on the corpse, except where he had vomited blood.
The area has been cordoned off as a crime scene and investigators are gathering evidence.
The body of the officer was transported to Nyamira County Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
“For now, we cannot speculate about anything. Let the investigators do their work and come up with the cause of death later,” Leparimorijo told journalists.
The deceased’s colleagues have informed county officials that he had been on blood pressure treatment in recent months.

Mr. Leparimorijo confirmed to the press that the issue of his high blood pressure had been going on for some time now, but could not specify the cause of his death before the post-mortem is done.
“He has been on blood pressure treatment for a while, but we cannot mention the cause of his death until a post-mortem is done so that the cause of death is clearly established,” he said.
There has been no separate statement from the National Intelligence Service.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers are spearheading the probe alongside county security personnel.
The deceased was the senior intelligence coordinator of Nyamira County.
