Motorists Warned as Abnormal Load Transport Set to Disrupt Major Highways for 90 Days

Motorists using major highways across the country have been warned of abnormal cargo transportation that will be taking place between May and August 2026.

According to a notice issued by TransEast Professional Hauliers on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the transportation exercise will involve oversized cargo, including transformers, earth-moving machines, steel structures, boats, and breakbulk crates.

“This is to notify all Road users and the General Public of the Abnormal movement on the following routes. Please exercise caution when in the vicinity,” read part of the notice.

TransEast Announces 90-Day Abnormal Cargo Movement Across Major Roads

The company stated that the cargo will measure between 25 and 40 metres in length, 4.1 to 6 metres in width, and up to 6 metres in height.

The movement is scheduled to begin on Friday, May 8, 2026, and continue until August 6, 2026, between 6.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m.

Among the affected routes is the busy Mombasa-Nairobi-Nakuru-Kericho-Awasi-Ahero-Kisumu highway.

Other routes listed include Mombasa-Nairobi-Nakuru-Eldoret-Malaba, Mombasa-Nairobi-Nakuru-Kericho-Kisii-Migori-Isebania, and Mombasa-Nairobi-Thika-Kenol-Makutano-Embu-Moyale.

The transportation company also announced another route passing through Mombasa, Kibwezi, Kitui, Kapat, Kalindini, Kanyonyo, Matuu, Thika, Nanyuki Road, Kiganjo, Subukia, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kitale, and Malaba.

Motorists were advised to exercise caution while driving near the abnormal loads due to their large size and possible impact on traffic flow.

Abnormal Cargo Movement to Be Carried Out Over 90 Days from Mombasa

Elsewhere, earlier this year, another abnormal cargo movement was conducted for 90 days. Herocean Enterprise Kenya Limited issued a public notice informing motorists about a heavy load that was to be transported from Mombasa to Malaba along major highways in Kenya.

According to a notice that was shared on Friday, February 27, the cargo measured 4.5 metres wide, 17.5 metres long, and 4.7 metres high, with drivers advised to exercise extra caution, especially when overtaking.

Herocean stated that the transportation exercise would run from February 26, 2026, to May 27, 2026, covering 90 days.

The abnormal load was expected to move from Mombasa through Voi, Salama Southern Bypass, Maai Mahiu, Gilgil, Eldoret, Webuye, and finally Malaba.

The company explained that the lengthy transportation period was intended to ensure the huge cargo was moved carefully and slowly to maintain safety along the affected routes.
