Kenya Railways Clarifies Recent Mass Recruitment Notice

Share

Kenya Railways has made a public statement regarding a job recruitment scam that is widespread across social media platforms, advising Kenyans to guard themselves against fraudsters who are pretending to be government officers at Kenya Railways.

The fake notice, branded with the corporation’s logo and titled “Job Opportunity 2026,” claims that Kenya Railways is recruiting for dozens of positions across multiple departments, including sales and marketing managers, passenger service managers, graduate trainees, drivers, cleaners, receptionists and data entry clerks.

Advert further directs applicants to submit applications through a Gmail address before a stated deadline in May 2026.

However, Kenya Railways has dismissed the notice as fake, insisting that all legitimate vacancies are only published through its official recruitment channels.

“Stay alert!! Protect yourself from fraud. Kenya Railways wishes to alert members of the public about a fake job advertisement circulating on various social media platforms,” Kenya Railways said in a statement.

Corporation Distances Itself From Viral Recruitment Poster

The Corporation said fraudsters have increasingly been targeting desperate job seekers by impersonating government agencies and state corporations, often demanding payments in exchange for employment opportunities, shortlisting, or interview placements.

“We reiterate that Kenya Railways does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process. All applications must be submitted exclusively through the official job link available on our website, where a step-by-step application guide is provided,” the corporation stated.

The fake advert circulating online listed more than 20 vacancies allegedly available across the country, complete with reference numbers and the number of openings for each role.

Notice also falsely claimed that the recruitment drive was part of the corporation’s 2023-2027 strategic plan aimed at expanding rail transport operations and boosting economic development.

Kenya Railways has now urged members of the public to ignore such notices and avoid sharing personal information or sending money to individuals claiming to facilitate recruitment into the corporation.

“We strongly advise job seekers to remain vigilant and verify all job advertisements through our official website: krc.co.ke,” the statement added.

Scammers Preying on High Unemployment Rates

Scammers often publish misleading job advertisements bearing government logos.

In a public notice dated April 19, 2026, Kenya Railways warned that fraudsters were masquerading as the company by offering fake jobs and demanding payments from unsuspecting candidates.

“Kenya Railways wishes to alert the public of fraudsters impersonating the Corporation by advertising fake job vacancies and soliciting money from unsuspecting job seekers,” the Corporation said.

The corporation emphasized that all genuine vacancies are published only on its official website and in national newspapers, with applications submitted strictly through the authorized job portal.

“Kenya Railways does NOT charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process, including application, shortlisting, interviews, or appointment. Any person or entity demanding payment in the name of Kenya Railways is fraudulent,” the notice stated.
