TVETA Announces Vacancy for Director General/CEO Position

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has announced a vacancy for the position of Director General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In a public notice, the authority said it is looking for a qualified person to lead the institution and oversee its daily operations.
According to the advertisement, the successful candidate will serve on a five-year contract.
The contract may be renewed for one additional term at the recommendation of the TVETA Board.
“The Authority seeks to recruit a qualified person to fill the position of Director General/ Chief Executive Officer (CEO),” the notice stated.
The Director General will report directly to the TVETA Board and serve as the authority’s chief executive officer.
Key Responsibilities
TVETA said the Director General will supervise the day-to-day management of the authority and ensure it delivers on its mandate.
According to the notice, the Director General/CEO will:
- Ensure that the Authority delivers on its mandate as stipulated in the TVET Act CAP 210A.
- Serve as the link between the Board and management, while providing regular communication to the Board on key technical, financial, strategic, administrative and other matters of the Authority.
- Develop and recommend to the Board the Authority’s strategic plans, work plans and annual operating budgets.
- Serve as an ex officio member and secretary to the Board, while executing and communicating the Board’s strategies, decisions and policies.
- Ensure the development and implementation of effective financial management policies.
- Ensure preparation of the annual budget and establishment of proper internal controls.
- Establish proper internal control systems and procedures.
- Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate governance.
- Act as the official spokesperson for the Authority.
- Maintain a conducive work environment that attracts, retains and motivates skilled and talented employees.
- Ensure compliance with the Constitution, policies, laws, regulations and procedures.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Board from time to time in line with the Constitution and other legal provisions.

TVETA Qualifications Required
TVETA stated that applicants must meet the following requirements:
Must have served in the grade of Director for a minimum period of three years or in a comparable position in the Public Service or Private Sector.
Must possess either:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education in a TVET-related field;
OR
- A Bachelor’s degree in disciplines such as Engineering, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, Livestock Production, Animal Health, Applied and Health Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Computer Science, ICT, Library and Information Science, Commerce, Communication, Tourism, Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Food Technology, Home Economics, Business Administration, Business Management, Sociology, Economics, Secretarial Studies, Supply Chain Management, Psychological Counselling, Guidance and Counselling, or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution, plus a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Technical Education.
- Must hold a Master’s degree in fields including Education, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Disaster Management, Agriculture, Livestock Production, Animal Health, Applied and Health Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Communication, Human Resource Management, Food Technology, Sociology, Economics, Business Administration, Business Management, Tourism, Supply Chain Management, Guidance and Counselling, or related qualifications from a recognized institution.
- Must have at least 15 years of experience in public or private institutions, with five years in senior management.
- Must have expertise in matters relating to Technical and Vocational Education.
- A Doctorate degree in a relevant area will be an added advantage.
- A leadership course lasting not less than four weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
- Membership in a relevant professional body, where applicable, will be an added advantage.
- Must be a Kenyan citizen.
- Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
- Must demonstrate a high degree of professional competence and administrative capability required for effective performance of duties at this level.

Clearance Documents Required
Successful candidates will be required to provide:
- Valid KRA Tax Compliance Certificate
- HELB Clearance Certificate
- Self-declaration form from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
- Police Clearance Certificate from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued within one year of the advertisement date
- Valid Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) clearance certificate
