The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a win in a case where two men have been sentenced to life imprisonment separately after defiling four minors in Changamwe and Jomvu in Mombasa.
According to a statement by DPP on July 9 2026, in the first case, Resident Magistrate Green Odera sentenced a 32-year-old Darious Mboga, also known as Kevo.
Kevo had three counts of defilement, which is contrary to Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the Sexual Offences Act, after he was found guilty of sexually abusing three boys.
The court also convicted him on three counts of committing an indecent act, which is contrary to Section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act.
Day Of The Crime
The court heard that between 2021 and May 11 of 2022, Mbogam, who operates a barber shop at the Msikiti-Noor area, sodomised the three boys who are minors aged 9, 12 and 16.
The Principal Prosecution Counsel presented six witnesses and the court eventually ruled that their testimonies were consistent and matched the victim’s story.

The accused allegedly pretended to be a good person and took in the minors when their mother died but instead of taking care of them, he sexually abused them multiple times.
On May 11, 2022, one of the boys went to school and a teacher noticed that he was walking strangely. When he asked him, he opened up and that is how the case came to light.
Reporting
After the minor told his teacher the matter was reported to the police and all three boys were taken to Coast Provincial General Hospital, where medical reports confirmed they were actually sexually abused.
Odera ruled that the court had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt that medical evidence had agreed with what the minors said, plus the testimony of the witnesses.
In the second case, a 24-year-old bodaboda rider was sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of defiling an eight-year-old girl.
DPP says that Hassan Bakari Kombo was convicted on the main count of defilement, which is contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offences Act.
DPP Presented Witnesses
The court also considered the alternative count of committing an indecent act with a child contrary to Section 11(1) of the same Act.
The prosecution presented five witnesses and Odera ruled that the court had proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt based on the witnesses.
The accused sexually abused the eight-year-old girl on December 7 2024, at 2.00 a.m. at Mnazi Mmoja Mikindani in Mombasa.
This is after the guardian of the minor left her under the care of the accused and went to work when the accused sexually abused the minor.
Period Of Appeal
The minor informed the mother, who went to inform the police of the same matter.

Medical evidence proved that indeed the minor was defiled, clearing the air that the accused claimed earlier that he was being framed.
The court granted both men the right to appeal their case within fourteen days as per the Kenyan constitution.
