MP Anthony Kibagendi Freed on Ksh 100,000 Bail

Narok High Court has granted Kitutu Chache South MP Antony Kibagendi release on a Ksh 100,000 cash bail, after he pleaded not guilty to assault charges.

Kibagendi appeared before Justice Esther Mwikali of the High Court in Narok to face assault charges following his arrest over a violent confrontation captured on CCTV.

He is represented by Senior Counsel Okong’o Omogeni and a team of lawyers at the Narok Law Courts.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on January 20 arrested Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi, escalating a probe that has trailed the lawmaker for weeks.

The arrest was carried out in Nairobi before the MP was escorted toward police custody, marking a significant development in an investigation linked to an alleged assault incident.

The legislator publicly disclosed the arrest through his official social media platforms, stating that officers dramatically intercepted him before driving him away.

“I have been aggressively blocked by DCI officers and arrested, being taken to DCI HQs,” Kibagendi wrote on his Facebook page.

Shortly afterward, the MP clarified that he had been booked at Muthaiga Police Station rather than the DCI headquarters as initially indicated.

He did not, however, provide details on the specific grounds for his arrest, leaving questions surrounding the circumstances unanswered for several hours.

Assault Allegations Under Investigation

While official police statements are limited, information obtained by hivileo.co.ke indicates that the arrest is connected to an assault complaint reported late last year.

Detectives have reportedly been seeking the MP in relation to an incident that occurred in December 2025 and was captured on closed-circuit television cameras.

Senior security officials in Kisii previously confirmed that a 38-year-old man had lodged an assault complaint against the legislator on November 27.

The case gained national attention after CCTV footage surfaced online showing a confrontation at a food establishment in broad daylight.

CCTV Footage & The Claims Of The Victims

In a video widely circulating online, a man believed to be Kibagendi was noticed to have approached another person seated inside the premises prior to a physical scuffle erupting.

This initially escalated to a scuffle, leading to other people in the premises trying to restrain the aggressor.

Nevertheless, the individual looked agitated and briefly turned his attack on another person trying to restrain him.

The complainant later recorded a statement claiming the MP confronted him over allegations that he had interfered with “private affairs.”

This assertion has formed part of the evidence under review by investigators.

Delays and Calls for Cooperation

The victim’s legal representatives have since criticized the pace of the investigations, arguing that the existence of video evidence should have expedited the process.

In response to mounting public pressure at the time, police officers in Kisii disclosed that the MP had been advised to voluntarily present himself to authorities to hasten the inquiry.
