EALA MP Winnie Odinga, the daughter of Raila Odinga, has hinted that Dr. Oburu Oginga will leave his position as ODM party leader after the transition period.
In an interview, Winnie said Oburu, her uncle, is the best person stabilize the Party after the demise of his father.
She stated that Oburu is doing a good job as Party leader, but will make space for young politicians
“I think Dr Oburu Oginga is a wonderful acting party leader in this transition period, and he is steadying the ship. This is not a very easy ship to steady, but he is weathering the storm and he has said many times that he is acting transitionally and will make space for other young people,” Winnie said.
“Winnie Odinga would be the last person who, at his age of 82, would allow his legacy to be besmirched by a political tug of war. We are very happy with him being in the position that he is; he is certainly the best person in that position.”
However, Winnie ODM politicians supporting her position in the Party are being intimidated.
She stated that ODM members are being given forms to confirm whether they are supporting the current regime or not.
“People are being intimidated in ODM. People are being dewhipped for showing up at that stage with me. Some are being removed in Committees in County Assemblies and Parliament. We have reached a situation where you are being told to fill out forms on whether you support the regime of the day; if you do, you will be given TSC slots, if you don’t, God knows what happens to you. There is intimidation of members,” she said.

Winnie said a new team was picked to take over, and they started new negotiations without consulting ODM members.

“Our party leader died, but the party has not once addressed us as members to inform us that he died. They have picked a new team. The next day, we wake up, and they say there are new talks. They have not once come to consult us,” she said.
Winni emphasized that it is the Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who has the right to state the position of ODM since he is the Secretary General.
“The custodian of our (ODM) constitution is the Secretary General,” she said.
