President William Ruto has once again drawn a connection between religion and politics after stating that the concept of a two-term leadership is rooted in the Bible.
Speaking during a church service at PEFA All Nations Gospel Church in Nairobi, the Head of State used a biblical analogy to explain what he framed as the natural order of leadership and continuity.
Addressing congregants, President Ruto said the Bible teaches about a second coming, which he likened to the idea of serving two terms in office.
His remarks came at a time when political debate is intensifying around his long-term leadership ambitions and the growing “two-term movement,” which seeks to secure his stay in office until 2032 under the Constitution.
“Bibilia inatufundisha yakwamba yesu atarudi mara ya pili. Sasa wakati mnasema 2 term mjue kuna 2 term ya yesu kurudi na mjipange,” the President told the church, drawing applause from sections of the congregation.
Loosely translated, the President said the Bible educates believers that Christ will come back for a second time, and that whenever people speak about two terms, they should understand there is also a “second term” in the return of Jesus Christ, urging them to prepare.

President Ruto has been increasingly using church platforms to communicate his political message.
At the PEFA All Nations Gospel Church service, he said that leadership is a calling that needs patience, preparation, and continuity.
This is a message he has consistently linked with his political agenda.

The message was a metaphorical one that sought to encourage believers to link their readiness with national stability.
The two-term rule is a reflection of the reality of the Kenyan Constitution, which provides that a president can only serve a maximum of two terms of five years each.
