Kenya Airways Explains Why Mwenda Mabura was Fired

Kenya Airways (KQ) has issued an urgent public notice distancing itself from Mwenda Mabura, a former employee of the company.

In a public notice dated Thursday February 19, 2026, the airline claims has been repeatedly making unauthorized public statements and misrepresenting his former role.

Kenya Airways said Mabura has appeared in various forums purporting to speak on behalf of the national carrier.

Kenya Airways Disowns Mwenda Mabura

The airline categorically clarified that Mabura is not a current employee, having been dismissed on October 23, 2023, for gross misconduct.

“It has come to our attention that Mwenda Mabura has repeatedly released public statements and appeared in various forums purporting to speak for or on behalf of Kenya Airways (KQ),” KQ wrote.

The statement adds, “Mwenda Mabura is not an employee of Kenya Airways Plc. He was dismissed from employment with the airline for gross misconduct on 23rd October 2023, and his last role was that of a First Officer.”

Further, the airline sought to correct the record regarding Mabura’s professional standing.

While Mabura has reportedly presented himself as a “Captain,” Kenya Airways stated that his last role was that of a First Officer and that he never held the rank or title of Captain in any official capacity.

“While at Kenya Airways, Mwenda Mabura was not a Captain and did not hold this rank or title in any official capacity.  He does not have any mandate, authority, or standing to speak for or represent Kenya Airways,” KQ clarified.

Mabura’s Public Appearances

The company expressed strong objection to Mabura’s public appearances where he positions himself as an “aviation expert” on matters relating to the airline.

“We take great exception to any past, present, or future statements as well as representations attributed to Mwenda Mabura where he purports to speak on matters relating to Kenya Airways as an “aviation expert”,” KQ stated.

Kenya Airways advised the media, stakeholders, and the general public to exercise caution when engaging with Mabura.

The Airline emphasized that any statements he makes regarding KQ are neither authorized nor endorsed by the company.

Kenya Airways has also encouraged all parties to consult only verified and qualified professionals, especially when public statements may influence credibility or public trust.

“Please verify any information attributed to him through official channels,” KQ stated.
