Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has broken his silence on whether he will run for the presidency in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on a morning show, Fixing the Nation on NTV, Tuesday, February 24, the ODM Secretary-General said that everyone in their “Linda Mwananchi” camp has the capacity to compete against President William Ruto.
“This movement should not be about Edwin Sifuna. Everyone in our camp has the capacity to vie against President William Ruto,” Sifuna stated.
Sifuna stressed the importance of careful planning, suggested counting supporters to find a strong group ready to push for change, and encouraged young people to register as voters and get involved in politics.
“Everyone in our movement has the capacity to act. When the time comes, you cannot run away. This is not about me, it is about building a people-driven movement,” he said.

He also urged Kenyans to offer their skills, time, and resources to support political mobilisation, not just money. Sifuna cautioned against making political movements about individuals and stressed the need for everyone to work together for lasting results.
“Past movements have fizzled out because people were left behind. We want a movement that is people-centred and driven by the public. Whatever the outcome, the focus must remain on the people,” he said.
At the same time, Sifuna explained why he has stayed in the ODM party despite recent moves by some top officials to remove him as Secretary General. Sifuna said his loyalty lies with the party’s principles and its members.
He stressed that ODM, funded by taxpayers, belongs to all Kenyans who support it, not just a few leaders.
“Everyone invested in this party has a responsibility to fight for it. Nobody should claim it is not our party,” said Sifuna.

Sifuna’s response comes after several Kenyans rallied behind him under the Sisi Ni Sifuna movement, following his recent ouster as ODM Secretary General.
In recent months, he has gained significant attention and popularity due to his criticism of ODM’s collaboration with President Ruto’s UDA government.
With his rising profile, several Kenyans and political analysts have argued that the Nairobi Senator could give President William Ruto a run for his money if he decides to vie for the presidency in the 2027 general elections
