Gunshots Fired as Ally of Rigathi Gachagua Confronts Goons at His Hotel

Democracy for Citizens Party Patron and Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate Irungu Nyakera has announced that goons attacked his hotel in Kisumu.

In a statement, Nyakera said the incident happened at around 5:00 am on March 11, 2026.

He stated that the attackers injured his staff, but he quickly chased them, shooting twice in the air.

Nyakera said he asked the area OCS for backup, but when officers failed to arrive an hour later, he sent a message informing the police that he would shoot anyone who tried to access his property.

“At 5:00 am today, over 100 goons attacked my hotel in Kisumu, damaging property and injuring our staff, including tying up the security lady. Upon hearing the commotion, I quickly went after them, shooting twice in the air as they fled. I called the OCS and asked for backup, but an hour later, when no backup was forthcoming, I sent him a message that I intend to shoot anyone stepping onto my property. I hope he shared the message in their security WhatsApp group,” he said.

Irungu Nyakera Says His Hotel Was Attacked a Week Ago

Nyakera alleged that a similar incident occurred almost a week ago when goons attacked his premises, carted away merchandise, and locked them out of their own premises.

He claimed that some senior government officials were part of the plot, adding that they want him out of the government premises since he is in DCP.

“Upon reporting the matter to the security agencies in Kisumu, I was informed that a PS had directed that I cannot continue being a tenant in a government building because I am in DCP. Further, the Nyanza Region DCI boss informed me that the PS has personal interests in the property,” he said.

Nyakera said he took over the premises as a shell in 2019 and has invested over Ksh 235 million as per court records, and holds a 50-year lease on this property.

“If the PS indeed wants to take over the property, let him come, and we will do a valuation, and I will sell it to him. Sending goons here, chanting “hatutaki mkikuyu”, will not drive me away. I am an investor, but I am not stupid!”Nyakera added.
