Court Jails Four Men for 25 Years in Violent Robbery Case

A court has sentenced four men to 25 years in prison after convicting them in a violent robbery case.

In a statement, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said it has won a case against four accused persons in a robbery with violence case related to a violent attack in Rongai Sub-County, Nakuru County.

Molo Magistrate Court has found Knab Ouma Obach, Abraham Isaac Oriosa, Dennis Nyariki Nyareeru, and James Changamu Nchore guilty of several serious charges.

These charges included robbery with violence, rape, and engaging in indecent acts involving a child and an adult, all of which were related to a single violent act.

“The Director of Public Prosecutions has secured the conviction of four accused persons in a robbery with violence case arising from an attack in Rongai Sub-County, Nakuru County.”

Information regarding the Violent Night Attack

The court found that on June 24, 2023, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the accused persons, jointly with others not before the court, carried out a violent robbery attack in Roret Nashville Village in Rongai Sub-County.

The attackers were armed with dangerous weapons such as a pistol, a slasher, a hammer, a hacksaw, and a knife.

They attacked the complainant, Rhoda Kwamboka Nyambati.

Attackers stole various goods such as household items, electronics, clothing, gas cylinders, poultry products, and cash in the form of Ksh 166,000.

The attack was violent, and this is one of the reasons why the accused persons were charged with serious offenses.

“The court established that on 24th June 2023 at about 8.00 p.m. at Roret Nashville Village in Rongai Sub-County, the accused persons, jointly with others not before the court and while armed with dangerous weapons including a pistol, slasher, hammer, hacksaw and knife, violently robbed Rhoda Kwamboka Nyambati.”

Prosecution Evidence and Court Findings

During the trial, the Prosecution, through the principal prosecution counsel Peninah Owando, presented convincing evidence that linked each of the accused individuals to the crime.

The prosecution established how the four men actively participated in the planning and execution of the robbery.

This further established the argument of joint liability among the four men.

Evidence presented by the prosecution included the witness statements and the items recovered.

It further strengthened the prosecution’s evidence.

The court then established that the evidence presented met the requirement of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

“During the trial, the Prosecution, led by Principal Prosecution Counsel Peninah Owando, presented evidence linking the accused persons to the robbery and demonstrating their joint participation in the violent attack and theft of the complainant’s property.”

Sentencing and Legal Implications

In the judgment delivered by the court, the four accused persons were found guilty of various charges, which indicated the gravity of the offense and the damage caused to the victims.

All the convicted individuals were sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment.

“The court found that the Prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt against the four accused persons. In delivering the judgment, the court convicted the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th accused persons and sentenced them to 25 years’ imprisonment each.”
