The government has approved the publication of Grade 11 textbooks, making the way for their release starting May as part of preparations for the next phase of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The move follows a green light from the Ministry of Education, allowing publishers to begin printing and distributing learning materials for senior secondary school learners.
The development is expected to ease concerns among stakeholders over delays in the rollout of Grade 11 resources.
According to the officials, the approval process involved a deep review of submitted manuscripts to ensure they meet curriculum standards set by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.

Education authorities say that by making textbooks available in May, schools will have enough time to prepare learners for their transition into Grade 11.
Authorities stated this step will mark a critical stage in the CBC system, where students will begin specializing in career pathways that go with their skills and interests.
Publishers have agreed with the ministry’s decision, stating that the delay in approval had initially disrupted production timelines.

However, they now express confidence that the books will be ready for distribution within the given period.
Major stakeholders in the education sector, including teachers and parents, have previously raised concerns over uncertainty surrounding learning materials for senior secondary level students.
The timely release of textbooks will address these concerns and issues to support smooth curriculum implementation and preparations for the next phase of CBC.
The Ministry of Education promised to ensure all necessary resources are in place before the learners’ transition, emphasizing that no student will be disadvantaged due to a lack of materials.
They will start producing the materials in May 2026, distribute them in October 2026, and open the first term in January 2027.
This move is part of the government’s effort to ensure the smooth rollout of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
