The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday, April 23, arrested a suspect accused of mobilizing a gang, alongside 11 other suspects, following a security crackdown operation in Trans-Nzoia county.
The suspect has been identified as Andrew Kimungui Wamalwa following what the DCI described as credible information.
Police raided his compound, during which they recovered some items suspected to be linked to organised crime.
Reflector jackets are alleged to have been used during mobilization, and three swords were seized from him.
The DCI reported that he plays a central role in organizing groups engaged in criminal activities in the Kipsongo area.
His actions, they claim, have caused disruption in society and posed a security risk to the community in certain areas of Trans-Nzoia County.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that Wamalwa is a key cog in mobilising goons within the Kipsongo area, responsible for a spree of criminal activities that jeopardise the safety and tranquillity of residents across Trans-Nzoia County,” DCI said.

Police recovered items believed to have been recently stolen from members of the public, including laptops and gas cylinders, the DCI reports.

The suspects are currently in custody, undergoing processing, and are expected to appear in court.
The DCI indicates that the operation is ongoing with efforts being made to locate and arrest the rest of the suspects and financiers linked to the criminal network.
The DCI has reiterated that the National Police Service is determined to curb criminal gang activity.
“Currently in custody, all suspects are undergoing processing as authorities prepare for their arraignment. Meanwhile, the team is actively pursuing leads to arrest additional goons and their financiers who remain at large.”
