Ruto Declares Free ID Card Replacements for Kenyans

President William Ruto has announced that Kenyans will now replace their national identification (ID) cards free of charge, in a move aimed at ensuring no eligible voter is locked out of registration ahead of the next General Election.

Speaking during a public address on Friday, President Ruto said the government will waive all fees associated with the replacement of lost or damaged ID cards to make it easier for citizens to obtain the crucial document.

“I will ensure that no one is blocked from registering as a voter because of issues related to the National ID. For now, up to the next election, we will ensure that even ID replacement is free to ensure that everyone gets the ID, and they are served as it should be,” said the President.

The Head of State noted that access to identification documents remains a major barrier for many young Kenyans seeking to participate in the electoral process.

He emphasized that the government’s decision seeks to promote inclusivity and protect the democratic rights of all citizens.

Ruto stated that the Ministry of Interior and the National Registration Bureau will oversee the implementation of the directive to ensure that all Kenyans, especially those in remote areas, can access ID services without difficulty.
