The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a weather forecast highlighting areas likely to receive heavy rainfall during the first week of May.
In its latest outlook for the period between May 1 and May 5, 2026, Kenya Met has warned that several parts of the country will continue to experience rainfall, with heavy downpours expected in some regions.
According to the department, rainfall is likely to persist in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and Northeastern Kenya. Heavy rainfall events are expected in some areas within these regions.
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley, mornings are expected to have rain in a few areas throughout the forecast period.
Afternoons will be marked by widespread showers and thunderstorms, while nights will experience occasional showers in some places.

Counties in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
In the northwestern region, covering Turkana and Samburu counties, mornings will generally experience light rains in a few areas during most of the forecast period.
However, sunny intervals are expected on May 4 and May 5. Afternoons will mostly have a chance of showers, with some days likely to experience thunderstorms. Nights will remain partly rainy, with showers expected in a few areas.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its environs, mornings will mostly be cloudy with occasional sunny breaks.

Some areas may receive light rainfall in the mornings. Afternoons are expected to bring showers and thunderstorms in several places, while nights will have a chance of showers in a few areas.
Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.
In the Northeastern region, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, mornings are likely to have light rainfall in a few areas.
Afternoons will mostly experience showers, with thunderstorms expected on Saturday. Nights will have occasional showers in some places.
Elsewhere, the Southeastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, mornings will mostly be sunny. Afternoons are expected to bring showers and thunderstorms in a few areas.
In the Coast region, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the Tana Delta, showers are expected in a few places during the mornings, afternoons, and nights throughout the forecast period.
