Ichung’wah Calls Governor Kang’ata a “Hypocrite” Narrates How He Fought to Become Deputy President

A public dispute has erupted between Kimani Ichung’wah and Irungu Kang’ata after the Majority Leader accused the Murang’a governor of misrepresenting their past interactions and dragging his name into political battles.

In a strongly worded statement, Ichung’wah dismissed claims that he had been pressuring Kang’ata, insisting that his earlier remarks at Kenneth Matiba Hospital were meant to call out what he described as “hypocrisy” in the governor’s political conduct, rather than exert influence.

“We know each other well,” Ichung’wah stated, referencing a past meeting in Lavington during a period of political tension linked to impeachment politics.

He claimed that the meeting reflected a different kind of pressure—one he alleges Kang’ata applied in his bid for higher political office, including seeking the Deputy President position.

“Remember our Lavington meeting at the time of impeachment? That is what would constitute exerting pressure. The kind of pressure you were exerting to be named Deputy President. I gave you my piece of mind on your candidature and the politics of hypocricy that i read in your quest. I am still of the same view today as i shared with you,” Ichung’wah said.

The Kikuyu MP further accused Kang’ata of invoking his name to gain favor with DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua and to edge out political rivals.

He challenged the governor to stop what he termed as “name-dropping” and instead “fight your battles.”

“Desist from name dropping my name to please Gachagua to drop your competitors. Pay the ransoms he demands if you desire to be his candidate. Fight your battles and keep off name dropping to advance your hypocritical politics of deceit,” he added.

Hidden Details of Past Meetings

In a pointed warning, Ichung’wah suggested he could reveal details of their past engagements, including claims related to the use of Murang’a county resources, but cautioned that such disclosures would not be in the governor’s interest.

“My brother, do you really want me to disclose to the people of Muranga full details of our Lavington meeting?Including what you did with Muranga resources? It is not in your interest,” he said.

Ichung’wah said he chose the public response since the Governor chose to use that same route.

He asked Kang’ata if he desired a full disclosure of what they both know.

“I have chosen this public response since you chose that route,” he added, signaling that the spat could escalate further if provoked.
