The National Police Service (NPS) has condemned the harassment of a female traffic police officer captured in a viral social media video while carrying out her duties in Nakuru County.
In a statement issued by the National Police on Friday, May 8, the agency said the incident occurred on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, and involved a male motorist who verbally abused and intimidated the officer while she was on duty.
According to the NPS, preliminary investigations established that the man seen in the clip is also a police officer stationed within Nakuru County.
“The attention of the National Police Service (NPS) has been drawn to a video clip circulating on social media, which depicts the harassment of a traffic police officer while she was performing her duties,” the statement said.
The Service said the actions of the officer amounted to harassment and undermined the lawful authority of the female traffic officer who was executing her responsibilities.
“The male motorist seen in the clip, subjecting the female traffic officer to verbal abuse, intimidation, and actions undermining her lawful authority, has been confirmed as a police officer based in the same county,” NPS stated.
The police service further condemned the incident, saying such behaviour was unlawful and inconsistent with the institution’s standards of professionalism and discipline.
“Such conduct is not only unlawful but also directly contradicts the core values of professionalism, discipline, respect, and integrity for which the NPS stands,” the statement added.
The Service stressed that all officers, regardless of gender or rank, deserve protection and respect while carrying out their mandate.
“No officer, regardless of gender or rank, should be subjected to harassment while serving the public and upholding the law,” NPS said.
The National Police Service said the behaviour displayed by the male officer did not reflect the values, training, or operational standards upheld within the institution.
“The actions displayed by the male officer do not, in any way, represent the ethos, training, or code of conduct of the National Police Service,” the statement read.
NPS noted that the police service is founded on principles of “honour, courage, and mutual respect” both internally among officers and externally in service to the public.
“We are a Service built on honour, courage, and mutual respect—both among our members and towards the public we serve,” the statement added.

The Service confirmed that disciplinary and corrective action had already been initiated against the officer involved following the circulation of the video online.
“To this end, the NPS has swiftly initiated disciplinary and corrective measures,” the Service said.
At the same time, the National Police Service commended the female traffic officer for remaining calm and professional despite the confrontation.
“We further commend the female officer for her composure, bravery, and commitment to duty despite the provocation,” the statement noted.
According to NPS, the officer’s conduct demonstrated the professionalism expected from members of the police service while dealing with difficult situations in the line of duty.
“Her conduct exemplifies the professional standards expected of every police officer in Kenya,” the Service stated.

The agency also reminded all police officers across the country to maintain professionalism, discipline, and decorum while interacting with the public and fellow officers.
“All officers of the National Police Service are reminded to carry out their duties professionally and to serve the public with the appropriate attitude, decorum, and discipline,” the statement read.
The Service reiterated its commitment to addressing misconduct within its ranks and restoring public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
“The National Police Service reassures the public of its continued commitment to eradicating indiscipline, harassment, and any form of misconduct within our ranks,” NPS said.
