President William Ruto has broken his silence following the death of gospel singer Rachel Wandeto, condemning the killing and promising that those responsible will face the full force of the law.
In a statement, the President described Wandeto as a hardworking and promising young woman whose death had shocked the nation and raised concerns over increasing political intolerance in the country.
“May God grant the family and friends comfort, peace, and courage to bear with the loss of Ms Rachel Wandetto,” Ruto said.
The Head of State further vowed that investigations into the killing would proceed without fear or favour, insisting that the perpetrators would be prosecuted regardless of their political or social connections.
“The criminals that attacked this hardworking and promising lady will be held to account, irrespective of their affiliation,” Ruto stated.
His remarks come amid growing public outrage and demands for justice following Wandetto’s death, which has sparked debate across the country over political hostility, freedom of expression, and the safety of individuals perceived to hold differing political views.
The President warned that acts of political violence and intolerance threaten the country’s democratic foundations and social stability, calling on Kenyans to reject divisive politics.
“Kenya has no place for political intolerance that suppresses free speech or association. This threatens our democratic stability,” he said.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also condemned the incident, terming it a barbaric act that should never be tolerated in society.
He said security agencies had already launched investigations to uncover the motive behind the attack and ensure those involved are prosecuted.
“I condemn this barbaric act that has no place in our society. Our investigative agencies are working hard to establish the motive and bring to book the perpetrators of the heinous act. Whatever the motive, no Kenyan should go through such an ordeal because of her beliefs,” Murkomen stated.
Former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo joined other leaders in condemning the killing, saying the violence violated constitutional protections on dignity and freedom from violence.
“I condemn the heinous act of violence against Rachel Wandeto who was set ablaze in Kasarani. Such brutality is not only inhumane but undermines the constitutional promise of dignity and freedom from violence under Articles 27 and 29,” she said.

Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi described Wandetto’s death as painful and unnecessary, arguing that no Kenyan should face hostility because of political beliefs.
“This is such a painful and unnecessary death. A young Gospel artist has been silenced while carrying nothing but her music, her faith, and her personal political beliefs. Rachel Wandeto Muthoni, did not deserve the hate, the pressure, and the hostility that surrounded her simply because she publicly supported President William Ruto,” Itumbi said.
Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria also mourned the singer in a brief but emotional statement posted online.
“Rest in Peace Rachael. The Shakahola Cult Leader is happy but our hearts are bleeding,” Kuria said.
