Taxi Driver Linked to Attack of Gospel Singer Rachel Wandeto Arrested

Police from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Homicide Unit have arrested a taxi driver who regularly ferried gospel musician Rachel Wandeto as investigations into her death in Mwiki, Nairobi continue.
The homicide police believe there were other motives behind her murder, other than the controversial PresidentWilliam Ruto tattoo.
DCI confirmed the arrest of Josiah Njeru Njiri in Kasarani and said he will be presented before the court.
The Agency said detectives are pursuing more suspects, but did not reveal more details on those being hunted.

The Investigation into Rachel Wandeto’s Murder
Wandeto, a gospel artist who also went by the name ‘Tattoo lady,’ was brutally attacked by petrol by an attacker in Mwiki.
The police, the case was already on a fast track, and the incident quickly captured nationwide attention after reports dubbed it Tattoo Murder: Probe and Protests.

The Rise of Femicide in Kenya
The news comes amidst mounting concerns over the escalating cases of femicide across Kenya, with human rights groups warning of alarming figures, eight women a week are reported killed on average as cited by police reports.
The violence related to the issue has been condemned by various stakeholders, with earlier statements from the public transport operators condemning disorder and destruction, as such acts negated their genuine interests.
The DCI has not yet provided complete information on the evidence pinning Njiri to the assault.
“Detectives are following all leads, and more arrests are anticipated.” Mr. Amin warned that the case of Wandeto has continued to join the list of young Kenyan women murdered this year in inhumane acts.
