Profile of Roseline Alionya: Education, Family, and Background

Roseline Alionya is a Kenyan educator, policy researcher, and youth political mobilizer who has increasingly become a recognizable voice in Kenya’s political space through her role in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leadership.
Alionya pursued her higher education at Machakos University, where she studied a Bachelor of Education Arts specializing in Business Studies and Geography.
Alionya graduated with First Class Honours, and she later formed the First Class Honours Association of Kenya (FiCHAK), an initiative bringing together top-performing graduates to contribute to governance, education, and leadership conversations in the country.
While at the university between 2018 and 2022, Alionya was a peer counsellor and she worked with students who faced challenges related to gender-based violence, reproductive health, and substance abuse.

She later joined The Oslo Center as a Policy Intern between May and November 2024.
During her internship, she participated in policy research that focused on gender representation in political parties and governance structures in Kenya.

Experience
Her work involved identifying policy gaps and contributing recommendations on inclusivity and youth participation in leadership.
Alionya later ventured into active politics and youth mobilization through ODM.
She rose to become the Chairperson of ODM Young Captains, a youth sector associated with the party that focuses on mobilizing and engaging young people in political discussions and national governance issues.
Her visibility in national politics grew through television and radio appearances where she frequently discussed governance, youth empowerment, economic policies, and political accountability.

Online Visibility
Some of her comments during television and radio discussions ignited mixed reactions online, with her supporters praising her confidence and critics questioning some of her takes.
Despite the online backlash, Alionya has maintained that her involvement in politics is solely driven by service and commitment to youth representation.
In recent months, Alionya has drawn public attention after making comments on national, political and economic matters, including debates surrounding the Finance Bill 2026/2027 and public appointments.

She has publicly stated that her role within ODM’s youth structures is voluntary and that she is not being paid.
Beyond politics, Alionya describes herself as an educationist, political enthusiast, and youth advocate.
Alionya continues to position herself as part of a new generation of young leaders seeking greater youth inclusion in governance and decision-making processes in Kenya.
