Gachagua Fires DCP Secretary General, Appoints Methu as Replacement

Democracy for Citizens Party’s (DCP) top hierarchy has been reorganized on Monday, May 25 by Rigathi Gachagua, who announced Senator for Nyandarua John Methu as the acting party spokesperson and acting secretary general of the party.

In a press briefing held at the party headquarters in Nairobi, Gachagua confirmed that the change has taken immediate effect saying it has been done to streamline the communication and give a central point to the party in anticipation of future activities.

He explained that the decision to appoint Methu came about following a NEC meeting and the decision to promote him to the positions.

“Today, Senator Methu speaks for DCP. He is the designate SG and will handle all communication” he told stated.

Change in Leadership within the DCP Party, with Hezbon Obaga Being Replaced as Secretary General by Gachagua

Gachagua further explained that details will be forwarded to the registrar of political parties for proper registration as SG of the DCP.

While he is awaiting formal registration with the registrar of political parties, he will remain the acting SG and in-charge of all correspondence and engagements with the media on behalf of DCP.

Hezbon Obaga, one of the founders of DCP and party secretary general since its formation in May 2025, has been relieved of his duties as the Secretary General.

Political Party Leadership Changes

Obaga has served the party as secretary general for just over one year, but Gachagua has not disclosed public reasons for his dismissal as the Secretary General.

Official leaders of the Democracy for Citizens Party have not made any comments or any reason revealing as to why Obaga wa succked.

Methu currently serves as the senator for Nyandarua County.

As of Monday night May 25, Hezbon Obaga had not made any public statements regarding his ouster from the position of Democracy for Citizens Party Secretary General.

Authorities are waiting for Methu’s name to be forwarded to office of the Registrar of political parties for confirmation.
