“You Have Done Your Part”: Duale Tells Uhuru to Bow Out of Politics

Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, has launched an attack against former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of jealousy and continued political hostility toward President William Ruto.
Speaking during the celebrations of Eid al-Adha in Nairobi in response to recent criticism directed at President Ruto, Duale defended the Head of State and told Uhuru to step away from active political confrontation.
Duale argued that former presidents before him had exited the political stage after completing their terms in office.
“Reduce the jealousy, too; you are very jealous. Daniel Arap Moi did his part and left. Your late father, Jomo Kenyatta, also did his part and left. Mwai Kibaki, one of the most progressive leaders in our country, did his part and left as well,” Duale said.
“You too have done your part — both good and bad — now it is your time to leave. But this brother of yours, William Ruto, you mistreated him when he was your deputy. And now you still want to keep tormenting him even to the grave? God blessed him until he attained the presidency, yet you still want to keep troubling him,” Duale added.
UDA’s Escalating Offensive Against Uhuru
Duale’s remarks came barely a day after the ruling United Democratic Alliance released an open letter accusing Uhuru of bitterness and political sabotage against the Kenya Kwanza administration.
In the lengthy statement signed by UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire and Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan, the party claimed the former president had failed to accept Ruto’s 2022 election victory and was allegedly fueling opposition against the government.

The party further accused Uhuru’s administration of leaving behind a struggling economy burdened by debt, high inflation, stalled development projects, and weak public institutions.
The statement also defended Ruto’s government, citing reforms in agriculture, healthcare, education, housing, and infrastructure as evidence of economic recovery.
Among the projects highlighted were affordable housing developments across the country, ongoing road construction works, reforms in the health sector under the Social Health Authority, and government efforts to stabilize fuel and fertilizer prices.
Uhuru-Ruto Rivalry
The rivalry that came about politically between Uhuru and Ruto is considered to have been one of the main political rivalries in Kenya ever since the political split during the second tenure of Uhuru.

Despite campaigning together under the Jubilee administration in 2013 and 2017, relations between the two leaders deteriorated following the 2018 handshake between Uhuru and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Ruto’s allies have repeatedly accused Uhuru of attempting to block his presidential bid in the 2022 General Election by backing Odinga’s Azimio coalition.
Uhuru, however, has maintained that his political decisions were aimed at securing national stability and continuity.
