Sameer Africa Announces Leadership Changes as Two Directors Exit

Sameer Africa PLC has announced changes to its board, bringing in two Independent Non-Executive Directors while two members exit.

According to the announcement issued on May 28, 2026, the appointments will take effect from May 29, 2026, as Sameer Africa moves to strengthen its governance structure.

First, the board has appointed Eshak Adam Harunani and Richard Omwela, both of whom bring extensive experience in corporate governance, finance and legal advisory across regional and international markets.

“The Board of Directors of Sameer Africa PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Eshak Adam Harunani and Mr. Richard Omwela as Independent Non-Executive Directors of the Company with effect from 29 May 2026,” the company announced.

Harunani joins the board with over 30 years of experience in audit, assurance and advisory.

During his career, he served as a Partner at Deloitte Africa and as Country Managing Partner for Tanzania.

In addition, he holds board positions at East African Portland Cement PLC and East African Gas Oil Limited.

Sameer Africa Taps Legal Expertise and Governance Experience

Similarly, Omwela brings more than four decades of legal and governance expertise.

He practices as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and serves as a Partner at Dentons Hamilton Harrison & Mathews Advocates, where he previously held the role of Managing Partner.

Omwela also sits on several boards, including Nairobi Airport Services Limited, ABC Bank Limited, and WPP Scangroup PLC.

“The Board welcomes Mr. Harunani and Mr. Omwela and looks forward to benefiting from their extensive experience, leadership, and strategic insight as the Company continues to strengthen its governance and pursue long-term sustainable growth,” the company added.

The Company Commends Outgoing Directors as Tenure Ends

Meanwhile, Lydia Mbuthia and Peter Gitonga have stepped down from the board, effective May 28, 2026, bringing their tenure to a close.

“The Board also expresses its sincere appreciation to the outgoing Directors, Dr. Lydia Mbuthia and Mr. Peter Gitonga, who stepped down on 28th May 2026, for their dedicated service, invaluable guidance, and contribution to the growth and stewardship of the Company during their tenure,” the announcement stated.

As a result, the leadership changes position the company to enhance oversight while building on the foundation laid by outgoing directors.
