Unga Group Plc has announced changes to its board, appointing a new Independent Non-Executive Director while confirming the retirement of a long-serving board member. The changes took effect on March 31, 2026
The company has appointed Mr. David Mucheni Kiambi as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
“David Kiambi brings extensive experience in human resources leadership and organisational strategy across multiple sectors, including media, banking, manufacturing, and logistics,” the company board said.
The Board said the appointment is expected to strengthen strategic oversight and support ongoing organisational development and culture transformation.
Kiambi has built a long career in human resource leadership. He has served at Nation Media Group, NIC Bank Group, and British American Tobacco (BAT) East Africa. In these roles, he managed HR functions across Kenya and the region. He now works as a consultant serving clients across East Africa.
Kiambi holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Leicester, UK.

In the same announcement, the company confirmed the retirement of Mr. Patrick Ochieng Obath as Non-Executive Director. He steps down after a long tenure on the board.
Obath has served on the board since September 2013. During this period, he chaired the Board Investments and Operations Committee. He also served as a member of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee.
The Board credited him with strong leadership. It noted that he helped improve operational efficiency and supported overall business performance.
The company appreciated his contribution to the board. It wished him well in his future endeavours. It also highlighted his role in guiding key strategic decisions during his tenure.

Meanwhile, Unga Group said the changes support its governance agenda. The company added that board renewal helps maintain strong oversight. It also ensures continuity in leadership.
In addition, the Board reaffirmed its commitment to long-term value creation. It said the new appointment aligns with its strategy and strengthens leadership capacity.
