Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to travel to the United Kingdom today, Friday May 15, 2026, as part of efforts to mobilise funding ahead of the 2027 General Election.
This trip trip comes after earlier remarks made on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, during a press briefing in Nairobi, where Gachagua outlined the party’s financial plans.
He also confirmed upcoming overseas engagements aimed at strengthening its funding base.
During the briefing, Gachagua explained that the United Kingdom visit will be followed by a tour of the United States, where he intends to engage supporters and partners in addressing the party’s financial shortfall.
The party leader noted that the party is actively working to strengthen its systems in preparation for what he described as a highly competitive election period.
“This is why I will leave for the United Kingdom on Friday night… thereafter, I will come back then go to the United States again to talk to our friends and partners. We must put money together for elections, we cannot afford to fail,” he said.

Gachagua further revealed that the party estimates its election preparations will cost approximately Ksh 2 billion, with half expected to be raised through nomination fees.
He explained that the remaining Ksh 1 billion will need to be sourced externally to fully support party activities, including primaries and campaign logistics.
The DCP leader noted that the party is focused on building strong internal structures ahead of the 2027 elections, noting that nominations will be highly competitive.
He described the DCP ticket as one of the most sought-after, warning that internal nominations would be intense and comparable to a general election.

“The DCP ticket will be the most sought after. The DCP nominations will be a do-or-die situation. It will be like the real general election,” said Gachagua.
In addition, Gachagua instructed the party’s National Elections Board to begin early preparations, including procurement of election materials such as ballot boxes and indelible ink.
He highlighted on the importance of planning ahead, saying proper preparation would determine the party’s success in the upcoming elections.
