Vurugu boxing champion Majembe will not defend his title at the upcoming Vurugu 2 event after a breakdown in negotiations with organiser Oga Obinna, which he said ended in a total communication shutdown.

Speaking during an interview on the 2mbili TV YouTube channel, Majembe said he initially joined the planned line-up for the event.

Majembe added that he resumed training early, but later, both sides failed to agree on key contractual terms.

As talks collapsed, Majembe explained that he decided to withdraw from the fight card entirely.

The boxing champion noted that his management also tried to salvage the deal, but the deadline approached without any breakthrough.

“I began training as usual, but then a conflict arose between my camp and the promoter,” he said.

“There are some things we didn’t agree on, and so I pulled out,” he added.

Majembe Claims Sponsorship Dispute Triggered Standoff

Majembe said the dispute started when organisers questioned how he would showcase his personal sponsors during the event.

He explained that his fight gear normally carries branding from his sponsors in all his professional appearances.

“If I go to play any game, I wear the clothes of the flour people because they are my sponsors,” he said.

However, he added that the promoter insisted on direct agreements with sponsors before approving any branding on his kit.

As a result, both sides reached a standoff that neither managed to resolve before the event drew closer.

Communication Cut After Oga Obinna Fallout

Majembe further alleged that organiser Oga Obinna blocked him after tensions escalated during the contract dispute.

He said he did not continue pursuing contact once communication channels shut down completely.

“Oga Obinna has blocked me because of the contract disagreement. It feels like he took it personally after I explained my side,” he said.

Fitness Concerns Ahead of Event

With only days remaining before the event, Majembe said he stopped intensive training once negotiations collapsed.

He explained that he no longer felt ready to compete at a professional level without proper preparation.

As a result, added that stepping into the ring unfit would disappoint fans who expected a strong performance.

“I don’t want to let down Kenyans,” he said.

Hints at Future Return After Vurugu 2 Exit

Despite his withdrawal, organisers will still proceed with Vurugu 2 after revising the fight card.

They have now scheduled Uganda’s Shakib Cham to face musician Arrow Bwoy in a headline bout.

Additionally, bodybuilders Gachau and Phil will face off in a crossover fight added to the lineup.

Meanwhile, Majembe said he could return later in the year and consider future bouts against Shakib Cham or Mbavu.
