United States President Donald Trump has vowed that the US military will launch fresh attacks against Iran on Thursday night, June 11, the same day the 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off in North America.
The tournament is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform on Thursday, Trump declared that the United States would hit Iran “very hard” later in the night.
“The United States will be hitting Iran (whose Navy, Air Force, radar, anti-aircraft and all other forms of defence, together with most of its offensive capability, are GONE!) very hard tonight,” Trump wrote.

The US president went further, saying that his administration would eventually take control of key Iranian oil and gas facilities, including Kharg Island, one of the country’s most important oil export hubs.
“At some point in the not-too-distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets,” Trump said.

Trump’s decision to threaten fresh attacks comes a day after he claimed that Iran’s military had been completely defeated and accused Tehran of failing to negotiate a deal with Washington.
“Iran’s Military is a complete and total mess. Much of it, like their Navy and Air Force, doesn’t even exist anymore. They have been completely defeated,” Trump said in an earlier statement.
“Iran is all talk and no action. The Bully of the Middle East is DEAD. They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them; now they will have to pay the price,” he added.
Claims Over the Strait of Hormuz Control
Trump also pointed to what he described as a successful US military operation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.

According to the US president, he directed the American military last month to conduct a secret mission aimed at protecting oil tankers and commercial vessels passing through the strategic waterway.
Trump claimed the operation helped more than 100 million barrels of oil reach international markets and allowed over 200 commercial ships to safely pass through the strait.
“This wildly successful effort is because the United States of America controls the Strait of Hormuz, not Iran,” Trump said.
“Their military is defeated, and their economy is lost. It’s over for Iran.”
