Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz After Signing Agreement With Trump

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump digitally and remotely signed the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports.

“Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and, as a first step, the Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade,” Shehbaz Sharif said on X, before congratulating Trump.
“I express my profound respect and appreciation to His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and President Masoud Pezeshkian for their wisdom, foresight and statesmanship in embracing the cause of peace,” he said

Trump had announced that a deal with Iran had been completed, declaring an end to tensions between the two countries, which began in February.

In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform on June 15, 2026, Trump said the agreement with Iran had been finalized and described the development as a breakthrough.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!” Trump stated.

Trump Says US-Iran Dispute Is Over as Strait of Hormuz Reopens

Trump also announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s key routes for global oil shipments.

He said the waterway would be opened to vessels without toll charges and that he had authorized the immediate removal of the US naval blockade.

“I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade,” Trump stated.

He described the move as part of efforts to restore normal shipping operations in the region.

Trump further urged ships to resume operations through the route, suggesting that global oil flows could return to normal.

“Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” he wrote.

Iran Confirms Strait of Hormuz Will Reopen on Friday

Elsewhere, Iran said the Strait of Hormuz could reopen on Friday, but under its terms, after Trump claimed a deal between Tehran and Washington was “complete”.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, confirmed that an agreement for an immediate end to the US-Iranian war, and said Lebanon was included in a peace deal due to be signed on Friday.

This is after Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, announced the agreement on Sunday afternoon, saying both sides would declare “the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts”.

Regional officials said Qatari mediators had travelled to Tehran on Sunday to finalise terms of a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

Iran blocked ships from entering or leaving the waterway shortly after the war started in February and as a result, oil prices rose sharply.

However, after the U.S. and Iran were unable to agree to a permanent ceasefire that saw the strait reopen, Trump in April ordered the U.S. Navy to begin the process of BLOCKADING all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz.

He had maintained that there would be no peace deal without Iran fully reopening the strait, though he has also said the U.S. has control of the waterway.
