EU–Equity Partnership to Sponsor 100 Kenyan Students Yearly for Master’s Studies in Europe

The European Union Delegation to Kenya and the Equity Group Foundation have launched a strategic EU–Equity partnership to expand access to quality education and strengthen global learning opportunities for high-achieving Kenyan scholars.
The initiative prioritises human capital development while creating structured academic pathways for talented students across Kenya and the wider region.
According to the statement issued on June 11, 2026, in Nairobi, European Union Ambassador to Kenya Henriette Geiger and James Mwangi, Executive Chairman of Equity Group Foundation and Group Managing Director and CEO of Equity Group, led the signing of the agreement.
Senior government officials attended the event, including Principal Secretary for the State Department for Higher Education and Research Beatrice Inyangala and Principal Secretary for the State Department of Science, Research and Innovation Shaukat Abdulrazak.
“The cooperation agreement formalizes a shared commitment to expanding access to quality education, nurturing talent, and connecting young Kenyans to transformative learning pathways both within Kenya and across Europe,” the statement stated.

Expanding Access to European Education Opportunities Through EU and Equity Partnership
The EU–Equity partnership now deepens collaboration between the two institutions to promote international education opportunities for Equity Leaders Program scholars.
It also raises awareness of European academic programmes while widening access to universities across Europe for top-performing Kenyan students.
As a result, the initiative strengthens long-term talent development by linking academic excellence with global exposure and research opportunities.

In addition, the programme introduces a structured mobility pathway that supports postgraduate studies abroad.
Both partners plan to scale up opportunities that allow outstanding scholars to pursue advanced degrees while engaging with diverse academic environments and innovation ecosystems.
“The programme targets sending 100 Equity scholars annually to European universities for master’s degree programmes, creating a structured pathway for talented young Africans to access world-class education, research opportunities and international exposure,” the statement added.
Strengthening Education Diplomacy and Global Skills Development
Finally, the partnership reinforces education diplomacy between Kenya and Europe.
It also enhances skills development and knowledge exchange while preparing young professionals to compete effectively in a global economy.
