A Kenyan family was left in shock after seeing their two brothers, who they believed had been working in Qatar for the past two years, on Citizen TV.

The two brothers had convinced relatives that they had secured jobs in the Gulf nation and were preparing to start a new life abroad.

Their family members reportedly contributed money to facilitate their travel and settlement, believing the pair had secured employment opportunities in Qatar.

For two years, the brothers regularly sent money home, reinforcing the family’s belief that they were earning a good income abroad.

Family Believed Them

Their perceived success reportedly became a point of pride among relatives, who often mentioned them as examples of young people working hard to improve their lives and support their families.

The deception then came to light after family members spotted the two men on a Citizen TV news broadcast covering demonstrations in Nairobi.

It raised immediate questions, as the brothers were expected to be thousands of kilometres away in Qatar.

The two had never travelled to Qatar. Instead, they reportedly invested the money raised for their supposed relocation in a boda boda business in Nairobi.

Brothers Invested In Business

Their business generated enough income to allow them to continue sending money home, helping sustain the impression that they were actually employed abroad.

While the brothers succeeded in maintaining the lie for two years, their appearance on national television ultimately exposed the truth, which shocked their family.

This story has since attracted widespread attention on social media, where many Kenyans have reacted with a mixture of amusement, disbelief, and admiration for the brothers’ ability to sustain the illusion for such a long period.

“I would have loved to see their return after the end of their contract, how family members would be waiting for them at the airport with flowers to welcome them home,” Chris said on Facebook.

Jasper said, “Hao wako sawa kabisa. They were to head to Doha, Qatar, to make money. They found the money in Nairobi and are remitting as promised. Good sons,”
