The State Department for Economic Planning within the National Treasury has invited the general public to have a chance to purchase state assets via auction as part of a public tendering exercise.

In notice referenced as TNT/SDEP/PA/2025-2026, Treasury said the public auction will be conducted in collaboration with Astorion Auctioneers.

The auction will take place on 30 June 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ministry of Public Works Yard along Machakos Road in Nairobi.

According to the notice, the items to be auctioned include motor vehicles, office furniture, and general office equipment that have been declared surplus or obsolete.

Interested bidders are advised to review the catalogue, which is available on the State Department for Economic Planning’s website.

“The State Department for Economic Planning, in conjunction with Astorion Auctioneers, shall sell by PUBLIC AUCTION boarded Motor Vehicles, General Office Equipment and Office Furniture on 30th June, 2026, from 11:00 am at Ministry of Public Works Yard, Machakos Road, Nairobi,” the notice read.

Inspection of Assets Before Auction

Prospective buyers will be allowed to inspect the listed items before the auction date.

The department indicated that viewing will be open from the date of advertisement until June 29, 2026, during normal working hours.

Officials said the inspection period is intended to allow bidders to verify the condition and specifications of the items independently before placing bids.

“All interested bidders may view the items from the date of the advert to 29th June, 2026, on weekdays during normal working hours to verify all the details for themselves,” the state department said

The notice further emphasized that all items will be sold on an “as-is-where-is” basis and will remain subject to reserve prices set by the seller.

Bid Deposit Requirements

To participate in the auction, bidders will be required to pay a refundable bid deposit through an account held at the Central Bank of Kenya, Nairobi, in the name of the Department of State for Economic Planning.

The deposit has been set at 10% of the reserve price for all categories of items, including motor vehicles, general office equipment, and office furniture.

“Interested bidders are required to pay a refundable bid deposit,” the notice read.

The department explained that bidders will only receive a bidding number after making the required deposit.

The bidding number will serve as an entry pass to the auction venue.

“No Bidder will be allowed entry into the Auction Venue without a Bidding Number and the Auction Catalogue,” state department warned.

Payment Terms for Successful Bidders

Successful bidders will be required to make an immediate payment equivalent to 40% of the purchase price once the auctioneer’s hammer falls.

The balance of the purchase price must then be cleared within 14 days from the date of the auction.

Failure to meet the payment deadline will result in forfeiture of both the 40% deposit and the bidding deposit.

“The successful bidders must pay a deposit of 40% of the purchase price at the fall of the hammer on the auction day and the balance within Fourteen (14) days,” the notice added.

“The purchased items must be collected upon full payment and within 14 days,” state department added.
