Former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is one of Kenya’s most recognizable political figures, owing to his family legacy, business interests, and leadership roles in both public and private institutions.
He is the son of Kenya’s second President, the late Daniel arap Moi, widely associated with the influential Moi family, which controls Standard Group PLC, holding the majority stake of over 75%, making them the principal owners of Standard Group.
Gideon Moi was born on October 22, 1963, in Nakuru to former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi and the late Lena Moi, and is the youngest of seven children.
Six years after his birth, his father became Kenya’s Vice President, a position that took a toll on the elder Moi’s marriage.
In 1974, when Gideon’s parents separated, his older siblings stayed with their mother, while he remained under his father’s care, fostering a special bond between them.
Gideon Moi: Educational Background
He began his education at Kenton College Preparatory School in Nairobi, then attended Strathmore College for his O-Levels, and later St. Mary’s School, Nairobi, for his A-Levels.
Meanwhile, at St. Mary’s Secondary School, Gideon Moi formed lasting friendships with classmates who later became prominent figures in various fields.
He later joined the University of Salford in Manchester, United Kingdom, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.

Political Career
Gideon entered politics, securing his father’s parliamentary seat in the 2002 general election. However, he lost the Baringo Central MP’s seat in 2007 before being elected Baringo Senator.
During his tenure as an MP, he championed the expansion of schools, healthcare facilities, water projects, and other development initiatives within his constituency.
However, his influence in Parliament grew when he was elected chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, Communication and Public Works, and in 2013, leading him to secure the elected Senator for Baringo County and successfully defend the seat in the 2017 General Election.
Additionally, Gideon hoped to run for president in the 2022 General Election, before he dropped his bid and supported Azimio la Umoja One Kenya flagbearer Raila Odinga.
He is the chairman of the Kenya African National Union (KANU). As a leader, Gideon has made major milestones, including leading the party into a coalition agreement with Jubilee.

Family Life and Net Worth
Gideon Moi is married to Zahra Bahlewa-Moi. The couple has three children: Kimoi, Kigen, and Lulu.
Although his exact net worth is not publicly disclosed, Gideon Moi is regarded as one of Kenya’s wealthiest political figures due to his extensive family business interests and investments.
