Gideon Moi, former senator for Baringo County and the Chairman of the KANU Party, has called for urgent government intervention following a worrying rise in cases of child disappearances, mistreatment, and unexplained deaths across the country.

In a statement dated Friday, May 15, 2026, Gideon warned that what were once isolated incidents are now escalating into a national crisis that requires immediate and coordinated response from authorities.

“Over the past few months, the country has witnessed a deeply disturbing rise in cases of child disappearances, abuse, violence, mistreatment, and unexplained deaths. What were once isolated incidents are now becoming a national crisis, ”said Gideon Moi.

Moi citing the Constitution of Kenya, noted that despite these legal protections, many children continue to suffer abuse in environments where they should be safe.

Moi further urged the State Department for Children Services to establish a coordinated national response mechanism to address the crisis.

He specifically proposed the creation of a rapid child emergency alert and response system to help respond quickly to cases of missing or abused children.

“It is time the State Department for Children Services establishes a coordinated national response mechanism, including a rapid child emergency alert and response system,” he said.

Gideon also called on society to reject the normalization of cruelty against children, urging Kenyans to confront silence and indifference around such cases.

Moi stressed that stronger consequences for perpetrators are necessary to deter further abuse and protect children.

Eyewitnesses at the scene observed that the bodies showed signs of advanced decomposition, suggesting they had been in the water for several days.

The investigating officers also suspected that the children were murdered elsewhere, and their bodies transported to the river under the cover of darkness.
