Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that detectives have linked the killing of a Presbyterian Church of East Africa cleric in Nakuru to a notorious armed gang believed to be behind a series of violent robberies in the region.
In a statement, the DCI said Rev. Julius Ndumia Ngari was killed on the night of May 3, 2026, at PCEA Tabungan Church in Nakuru North Sub-County.
Forensic and intelligence led investigations by detectives linked the murder of the reverend to a group, first profiled by authorities in July 2022, known for perpetrating armed robberies in security uniform and a L1A1 rifle, which was later recovered in 2024.
“The DCI reiterates its dedication to a comprehensive, professional and impartial investigation aimed at bringing all perpetrators of this grave offence to account,” read the statement.

The group is also said to be responsible for a robbery which took place on May 1, and where an amount of USD 600,000 was transferred to the suspects’ mobile money numbers from the victim’s bank account.
Authorities stated that at the moment they are investigating possible links to other series of violent robberies and attacks that have been reported throughout Nakuru County and beyond.
Detectives are building the case against suspected perpetrators, and advanced forensic analyses to confirm suspects’ presence at the scene of the murder are underway; further details shall be shared in due course as investigations unfold, the DCI noted in the statement.
